Dr. Bowen Zhou (IEEE & CAAI Fellow) is a Hui-Yan Chair Professor and Chief Professor of the Department of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University, as well as the founder of Xianyuan Technology Inc. He also serves as a disjunct professor and doctoral supervisor at multiple higher-educational institutes such as Peking University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, University of Science and Technology of China, Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), Harbin Institute of Technology, etc. Prior to his professorship, Dr. Zhou was a Senior Vice President of JD Group, Chairman of the Group Technical Committee and President of JD Cloud & AI; before which, he served as the President of IBM Artificial Intelligence Foundational Research Institute, Chief Scientist of IBM Watson Group, and an Outstanding Engineer at IBM.

As a seasoned researcher, he has devoted himself to exploring the cutting-edge theory, technology and industrial application of artificial intelligence on a global scale. His research spans across various fields including speech recognition, natural language processing and translation, multi-modal content understanding and generation, knowledge representation and reasoning, human-computer dialogue, trustworthy AI, etc. He has published more than 100 papers with overall citations totaling more than 15000. He has also been a frequent recipient of numerous patents both in China and the US.  Notably, his groundbreaking work on multi-headed self-attention mechanisms for natural language representation, published in 2016, laid a major foundation for the later Transformer architecture, receiving more than 2,000 citations from top-tier international journals such as Transformer and GAT. Meanwhile, his natural language generation algorithms have been cited for over 3000 times in the field of AIGC. In recognition of these outstanding contributions, Dr. Zhou received the prestigious "Wu Wenjun Outstanding Contribution Award in Artificial Intelligence" in December, 2020.
