Professor Wei Chen, dean of School of Food Science and Technology, Jiangnan University, is mainly engaged in the exploration of food microbial resources and functional analysis of probiotics and intestinal microbiota. Prof. Chen presided more than 10 projects such as National Natural Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the National "863" program and other national and provincial research projects. “Screening of functional probiotics and the key technologies in application” was awarded second prize of the National Science and Technology progress in 2009. He obtained multiple national and provincial awards including New Century Excellent Talents by Ministry of Education, National Leader in Scientific Innovation by Ministry of Science. He serves as the Director of Functional Food Engineering Research Center by Ministry of Education, Chairman of LAB Association of Chinese Institute of Food Science and Technology, Vice-chairman of Dairy Industry Innovation Alliance. Currently he has been granted for 30 patents and publishes more than 300 research papers, which include 120 SCI papers in esteemed journals such as Applied and Environmental Microbiology, Journal of Bacteriology, PLoS One and Scientific Reports. He also serves as the member of editorial board of Food Control, Journey of Dairy Science, Food Bioscience and other 5 professional journals.
